After the war there no longer was slavery. This meant that whites did not have African Americans working for them. Whites were infuriated with this and took all of it out on the African Americans. African Americans were given more rights but life was still an everyday struggle. There was segregation everywhere. African Americans lost of on a lot of opportunities because there were not seen as equals. African Americans were now able to join the war, but even in the war there was segregation.
